Local Philanthropy & Service
In addition to raising money and awareness for arthritis and related diseases, our sisters recognize the importance of giving back in many other ways.
The Arthritis Foundation
Serving the world around us is one of AOII’s founding principles. While local chapters are encouraged to support philanthropic opportunities in their communities, all chapters support AOII’s international philanthropy, which is Arthritis. Since 1967, the Fraternity has enjoyed an important partnership with the Arthritis Foundation. Every semester we host a “Spike Out Arthritis” event to collect donations for the Arthritis Foundation. Our goal is to raise awareness and money for this amazing foundation.
Sisters for Soldiers
Outside of arthritis, another popular philanthropy opportunity provided by the Fraternity is Sisters for Soldiers. This project supports service men and women overseas through the collection of specified items along with handwritten heartwarming letters. We hope that by donating care packages we can make their time away from their loved ones a little more enjoyable, and let them know that we are very thankful for the sacrifices that they are making.
During the month of February, we collect as many stuffed animals, pandas, as we possibly can. We then attach ribbons with notes on them and donate them to the local children’s hospital on Valentine’s Day. Our goal is to brighten a child’s day and give them something soft to hug.
